Cafe At 2011 Description:
While the Irish Pub on Walnut Street draws crowds for its Guinness on tap, live music and convivial atmosphere, its food is the usual rib-sticking pub grub. Which is why The Café at 2011 Walnut Street is such good news. Same owners, same kitchen, but chef Colleen McAvaddy executes her fresh takes on American comfort food at bargain prices. The best deal is the Sunday through Thursday two-course menu, which might include a cup of her low-fat chicken chile and an herb grilled pork chop. The three-cheese lasagna, meatloaf Florentine and filet of salmon with dill yogurt sauce are all reasonably priced. Not everything works---the Asian sampler delivers a variety of nondescript fried items with a treacly sauce---but the garlicky roasted peppers are served with thick slices of mozzarella; the huge Rittenhouse steak salad boasts a five-ounce filet, crumbled blue cheese, bacon and mushrooms; and the moist cranberry turkey sandwich is served on focaccia. Desserts include a delish bread pudding and a house-made brownie sundae. The kitchen stays open until 1 a.m. Enjoy a great view of Walnut Street in the front dining room, or tuck into comfy oversize booths in the back near the bar.
