Squeeze through the cramped front room of Effie's and you'll be surprised to find yourself in a setting festooned with vines and featuring a few outdoor tables, that feels very much like a taverna in Greece. Bring a bottle of something crisp and dry to complement the consistently fresh, traditional fare. Start with a Thessaloniki platter that includes such traditional appetizers as baba ghanouj and tzatziki scooped up with warm pita bread. Follow with swordfish or red snapper grilled with olive oil and fresh lemon, or hearty lamb moussaka. We also suggest the baby lamb chops. Have the rice pudding for dessert---unless you like very sweet pastries such as baklava.
