Caffè Luna Description:
One of downtown Raleigh's oldest and most reliable venues for lunch and special events, Caffé Luna creates a Tuscan ambience with its faux-stucco colored walls, high ceilings, and eight-foot palms in terra cotta pots. The menu reinforces the mood, with light Italian fare covering the sunny spectrum from smoked salmon bruschetta to tender fried calamari to well prepared familiar pastas such as fra diavolo and clams in a white wine sauce. Grilled main dishes, especially rib-eye steak and salmon, are always reliable, and a delicately crisp rendition of the classic veal Parmigiana is a standout. The signature dessert is tartufo---a chocolate and ice cream ball with chocolate shavings, maraschino cherries and candied walnuts. Caffé Luna's modestly priced wine list is especially strong in Italian offerings, but includes only a few wines by the glass. There is also a reserve list.
