Carmine's Steak House Description:
The Lombardo family, with three restaurants on the St. Louis scene, has developed a working relationship with the Drury Inn group, and Carmine's is one of their hotel operations. The comfortable, modern, somewhat bland setting is a change from the very traditional atmosphere of the hotel lobby, situated next door in the old Fur Exchange Building. Unlike many hotel restaurants, this one gets a fair amount of local traffic, partly drawn by the Lombardo name, so conventioneers may well sit next to a couple from the suburbs out for an evening. Fortunately, things generally are more subdued than at other local meateries. Steaks are high-grade and properly cooked with traditional sides; a rack of lamb arrives with neon-green mint jelly. The Lombardos' Sicilian roots are represented mostly in the chicken and side dishes. Risotto, available as a side, is toothsome, although here seasoning is very conservative. The service is fine but suffers in comparison to the friendliness of the family's first venture, Lombardo's Restaurant, near Lambert Airport; the other location, Lombardo's Trattoria, is in the Union Station Drury Inn.
