Black Sea Restaurant Description:
This postage stamp-size eatery near Hamline University has its share of personality, with walls covered with mementos of the owners' native culture (think intricate mosaic tiles, colorful clothing and huge photos of the homeland). We also like the way the tables are separated by beaded curtains. But mostly we like the food. Plenty of vegan choices include a falafel salad and a stuffed-to-the-max veggie sandwich, along with soups like red lentil and, in the summer, cold cucumber. Of course, there are traditional beef and lamb gyros and lemony, marinated chicken kebabs. Order a glass of Turkish lemonade and the kofte kebab---six handmade meatballs mixed up with aromatic Black Sea herbs. And we never leave without finishing off our meal with a demitasse of darkly intense Turkish coffee.
