Forepaugh's Description:
If there is a more romantic restaurant in St. Paul, we're hard-pressed to name it. This 1870 mansion, built by dry goods magnate Joseph Forepaugh, is nestled in the fashionable Irvine Park neighborhood. Today, the area is one of the city's loveliest and most historic districts, and this three-story restaurant has been lovingly and lavishly restored to its former glory, with beautifully appointed dining rooms on three floors and a striking second-story patio that boasts prime downtown skyline views. The menu features clean, New American ideas: a gloriously fragrant striped bass pistou, rare shears of thyme-infused lamb loin, velvety slow-roasted salmon with a potato-leek fondue, colorful soups and fresh, artful salads. Pastry chef Carrie Summer's elegant desserts are not to be missed. One other fascinating tidbit: the house is said to be haunted---benevolently---by a young servant named Molly, who took her life following an ill-fated love affair with Mr. Forepaugh. Be sure to ask the staff about their run-ins with the intrepid ghost.
