Any of Frost's dining areas are a good choice, each evoking a Victorian charm that is genuine, not out of some restaurant designer's playbook. Moreover, there is no better place in St. Paul to meet for a first date than the elegant and sophisticated bar. In the summer, the patio in back is an essential experience. The multiple levels, soft lighting and lush greenery make us wish fall would never come and that the cocktails, well-selected wines and interesting beers would never stop flowing. As for the food, Frost serves contemporary and politically correct (read: most ingredients used are organically grown and-or locally produced) cuisine with mixed results, depending on who is in the kitchen. For starters, you can usually count on the mussels steamed in a lemon-coconut broth. Entrées range from simple grilled salmon to a spicy, chili-glazed duck breast served with a peach and coconut risotto. Seasonally changing items might include autumn squash ravioli in an orange curry sauce. Frost is one of the few TC restaurants to offer cheese flights on its menu.
