Luce's tagline, "a contemporary twist on Italian," seems to have gotten a tad torqued lately; most dishes incline toward the traditional---though often with a distinguishing detail. A mixed grill of lamb chops, veal flank and New York strip comes with a cherry pancetta demi-glace, for example. And though the lamb chops "scottadito" won't burn fingers, they may pique curiosity by virtue of their parsley and garlic brining. Do hope that, due to acquired discretion or imposed recession, the kitchen has elected to minimize sides such as the lamb's Gorgonzola gnocchi; supporting players sometimes have tended to steal the scene from the main event. The hard times that have beset most high-end restaurants---and Luce is high-end in both appearance and intent---seem to have led to happy hour deals such as the buy-one-get-one-free appetizers available from 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. Monday to Saturday. Well-priced lunch offerings such as the ravioli di zucca in sage butter provide bargains on weekdays; in good weather, try them on the pleasant patio.
