Silo1604 Description:
The original Silo Elevated Cuisine on Austin Highway is still going strong, with chef Mark Bliss back at the helm. The flashier offspring, located in the fiercely competitive culinary corridor that is Loop 1604 between Highway 281 and IH 10, is coming into its own with a revised kitchen crew and starters such as the classic chicken-fried oysters and the more adventurous crispy arancini with grilled artichokes, goat cheese, arugula and a spicy tomato sauce. The classy interior follows Silo's now-established format of bar below and restaurant above theme, and the setting encourages lingering over entrées such as Szechuan peppercorn-crusted yellowfin tuna with shiitake mushrooms, 32-day aged Prime rib-eye and wood-grilled five-spice duck breast. The wine list is good and service is swift and efficient. A weekend brunch menu goes well beyond knee-jerk eggs Benedict (though they are available) and a Sunday to Friday early-bird prix-fixe menu offers a modest selection of Big Plates with salad and dessert at bargain-basement prices for such elevated eats.
