Phoenix Chinese Café Description:
There's nothing enticing about the décor in this strip-center Chinese, but there's something for every palate on the menu (we strongly recommend looking at all menus, including the traditional one that offers sea cucumber with mushrooms and duck feet), on the changing chalkboard, and in the selection of dim sum (turnip cake with sausage is among the daily delights). Multi-course Peking duck is available without advance notice, and there's a roasted, crispy duck as well, but deep-fried flounder with brown sauce is equally of interest, as are other fish in filet form. Those without developed Asian palates might avoid salted fish hot pot for its pungency and special mashed tofu for its blandness, but a touch of easy exoticism is available with the seafood fantasia served in a fried potato nest; it's scarcely scary at all.
