El Siete Mares Description:
Mexican Seafood, with dinner plates, tacos, soups, and salads. Just down the street from Our Lady of the Lake University.
El 7 Mares (The Seven Seas) is a bright, brawling and boisterous place that embodies coastal Mexico---the part with multiple mariachis sans the conspicuous condos. Upon arrival, order a Mexican cerveza and a plate of crunchy charales, the deep-fried smelts that may be the perfect beer buddy. The tabla de mariscos, a catch-all seafood sampler, parades ceviches, shrimp cocktail and shrimp quesadillas and sopes stuffed with tuna. Add a squeeze of lime. In fact, add lime to everything---even the beer. It's also good in the fish soups with names such as vuelve a la vida, or "return to life"---allegedly a good hangover cure. And a jolt of citrus also enhances the campechana cocktail brimming with creatures from almost all seven seas. We have been unhappy with the sautéed fish tacos, but we like the filete de moharra (sheep's head) in beer sauce.
