29 Restaurant & Wine Bar Description:
The restaurant gets its name from the highway that cleaves Napa Valley wine country, and its worldly wine flights are accordingly called "road trips." Let your top down and take a cruise; the wines are well-priced and there's usually a brisk breeze blowing through the outdoor seating space. The food was initially not as fine, but the latest chef seems to have dampened winds of discontent. Run-ins with flatbreads such as mushrooms with roasted garlic, epazote, pepitas and cheese and crab cakes with orange-saffron aïoli suggest the kitchen's hitting on all cylinders. Wine-friendly entrées now include a seared duck breast with plum and port, a grilled beef filet with a Cabernet demi-glace, and porcini-dusted scallops. The food aspect at this wine-themed hangout has been further reinforced with the lunch hours and dishes that include sandwiches of brick-oven chicken with prosciutto and tomato and beef tenderloin with marmottino cheese, as well as grilled salmon tacos and a couscous chopped salad with pine nuts, salami and more. Wine's not required mid-day, but as all bubblies are half off on Thursdays, a late lunch shading into early evening couldn't be a bad thing.
