Aldacos Mexican Cuisine Description:
Blanca Aldaco is doing Mexican missionary work at her airy restaurant in the stylish Stone Oak area, and it's not a moment too soon. The tacos al pastor alone would be enough to convert the uninitiated, but there are also authentic items such as the steak tampiquena and enchiladas verdes to be considered. Granted, the menu often strays from the totally traditional into efforts such as the shrimp-stuffed chile relleno and the chicken breast bathed in a sauce of roasted garlic and chipotles, but the sin is not a serious one. Even the avocado margarita, an Aldaco invention, can be forgiven. Leading us all into temptation is the tres leches cake, a now-ubiquitous dessert introduced into San Antonio by Blanca and her mother. We did have some initial quibbles with the composition and presentation of a grilled rib-eye served sizzling on a cast-iron comal and found a classic caldo tlalpeño in need of a little back-of-the-stove time. But we got over it.
