IL Sogno Restaurant Description:
Now that local über-chef Andrew Weissman has closed his much-praised Le Rêve, foodies have had to flock to Il Sogno at the Pearl Brewery development. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are available to diners willing to tolerate prime-time lines (no reservations are taken), though a single seat may sometimes be available at the bar facing the open kitchen. Starters of special interest include an inventive antipasto selection featuring octopus and potato salad and a purée of favas, peas and mint. Do not miss the freshly baked focaccia with lardo. Fish dishes such as the monkfish livornese with white beans and shrimp tend toward the elegant, while meats---meatballs in a tomato sauce with Parmesan risotto---are more down to earth. The lasagna ai funghi could speak more of the forest floor, but pizzas like the Bismark (with mozzarella, egg and ham) emerge from the oven wanting nothing. The savvy sommelier can be called upon to match a wine from the regionally based, all-Italian list to any of the above---or to a fried polenta with lemon cream and berries.
