Bobs Smokehouse Description:
The Smokehouse is the successor to Bob's Smokehouse, a legendary joint whose owner was eulogized by the Texas Senate upon his passing, and it retains the late lamented pit master's touch---along with all of his cooks. Lamb breast is unique---fabulously fatty and found almost nowhere else in town. Pork ribs are singular in their slow-smoked goodness, the grainy house-made sausage soars and short ribs shine in their crusty cloak through the magic of peppery mesquite. Though you should try it, the fruity barbecue sauce is hardly needed---except perhaps on the turkey breast, a healthier nod to other menu mainstays. Even chicken, often a yawner, is worth checking out, and all the sides---from beans to slaw to potato salad---are county-fair quality. Desserts were hit-or-miss in the past, but they now appear to be more of a priority, with brownies, sweet potato and pecan pies and peach cobbler all available. Ease it all down with lemonade or Southern-style sweet tea.
