Italian restaurant in San Antonio Texas has been serving diners for 35+ years. Consistently voted one of San Antonio's top Italian restaurants.
Joe Cosniac has taken his Paesanos formula and pitched at least part of it for this venture in the ultra-hot Loop 1604 corridor. Only the iconic shrimp Paesanos and a couple of kin remain from the sibling establishments on Basse Road and The River Walk. An open kitchen-as-altar appropriately dominates the basilica-like space, and from it issues bountiful blessings such as rock shrimp ragù on soft polenta. Diners in garb from scrubs to shorts may partake of a truffle-butter roast chicken with spinach torte, and veal osso buco with roasted root vegetables. Ask the wine steward for an appropriately upfront companion to any of the above from a list that emphasizes Italy but doesn't diss California. In benign weather, the patio, framed in massive limestone blocks and dominated by a rustic water feature, is a pleasant place to contemplate what remains of nature in this urbanizing area of the city. Some seared foie gras with Texas toast, a split of Champagne or something sweet, and your favorite thou beside you in the waning wilderness---it's paradise assuming the kids are all in control.
