Blue Point Coastal Cuisine Description:
Set in the middle of the Gaslamp Quarter, this stylishly sleek restaurant is one of the many Cohn-family restaurants that packed 'em in all over town. Dark wood, high-backed booths and (perhaps) the extensive martini list try to lend a sense of intimacy to the usually overcrowded dining room. The menu offers a bit of everything for seafood lovers: fresh oysters, tuna sashimi, shrimp cocktails and Osetra caviar. We like the grilled Portobello mushroom with fresh mozzarella and saffron-scented yellow tomato coulis and the grilled ahi with ginger-soy beurre blanc. The grilled pork chop, alas, falls flat: overcooked and far from tender. Desserts are fairly standard---crème brûlée, flourless chocolate cake, fruity sorbets---but done well.
