There is not a great selection of steak restaurants in the Slidell area, and while Young's has been there a long time, unfortunately the fare is inconsistent. Young's once dominated the beefsteak scene on Lake Pontchartrain's north shore. Nowadays, the chances are about 50-50 that you'll be presented with an exceptional piece of charbroiled meat. Stray from beef and you may be rewarded with first-rate domestic lamb chops and a double-bone pork chop. When all the cylinders are firing in the kitchen, both can hold their own compared with the similar fare served at other area steak restaurants. Char-grilled shrimp and a tasty sauté of mushrooms are other dependable options. The squat structure Young's inhabits along this secondary Slidell artery could be mistaken for an office building, even an abandoned office building, so keep your eyes peeled when making your approach for the first time.
