Old Vienna Description:
Traditional German food takes center stage at this beloved old-world-style restaurant. The menu, thick with roasted and smoked meats, is a carnivore's dream, and the atmosphere (think cuckoo clocks and taxidermy trophies on wood-paneled walls) is authentic Bavarian. Chef-owners Hans and Antonia Muehlinghaus have run the restaurant since 1983, specializing in hearty German classics such as Wiener Schnitzel and jager schnitzel, the latter of which comes topped with wild mushrooms. There's also a selection of continental dishes, including beef roulade and Cordon Bleu made with center-cut pork loin and baked to a golden brown. Entrées come with soup of the day or a salad made with crisp lettuce and pickled cabbage that provides a sour snap. Adventurous meat lovers may opt for the combination platter comprised of roast pork shank and duckling, chicken schnitzel, German bratwurst, Polish sausage and smoked pork chop. If you still have room, try one of the house-made desserts, including Black Forest torte, applestrudel or crêpes stuffed with ice cream and topped with hot orange sauce. Of course, there's a nice selection of heavy German beers to wash it all down.
