Lalo's Description:
This unassuming eatery on Ventura Avenue serves some of the Southland's best traditional tacos. Meats are marinated for hours or days, cooked to a turn and---for just a buck fifty---piled atop two freshly pressed corn tortillas. Even chicken, the plain vanilla of meats, packs a savory jolt after soaking in spicy red chile sauce and spending quality time on the fire. The al pastor here literally drips with spit-grilled flavor; the lengua will likely be among the most tender you'll have tasted. In addition to topnotch taqueria fare, Lalo's serves oysters on the half shell and seafood cocktails overflowing with shrimp, octopus and abalone---a reminder that the Pacific is just a couple miles down the gritty Westside Avenue. Skip over the burgers and Americanized Mexican food on the menu. This is a taqueria.
