The Kitchen Table Bistro Description:
Gourmands caught between Stowe and Burlington finally have a place to call home. In the bucolic 'burb of Richmond sits a 200-year-old brick farmhouse, an unassuming setting for what is easily one of Chittenden county's best kept kitchens. Chefs-owners Steve and Lara Atkins honed their craft in Napa Valley before bringing haute-country cuisine to Vermont. From a cellar that boasts a wine selection 100 bottles strong and growing, we recommend the cheerful Yalumba Viognier to start---an Australian white that finishes with bright citrus. The bistro's B&B décor is equal measures white linen and rural comfort, with generous spaces between tables. Guests are greeted warmly, then treated to crunchy sourdough bread with a salty dish of freshly-churned butter. Don't miss seasonal offerings like the sweet and creamy lobster parsnip soup that teases the palate with hints of nutmeg, or the watercress with creamy Boucher blue. When salads come chaperoned by oversize cuts of focaccia and hatched cloves of roasted garlic, who needs entrées? If you do, "large plates" include Vermont beef tenderloin, grilled organic salmon and Misty Knoll chicken with sweet potato mash. Cinnamon apple crisp is among dessert options. Service is unhurried, so plan on making a night of it.
