The ribs that this modest barbecue joint piles on its platters come with the usual choice of sauces---Carolina Mustard, Wichita Falls Hot, etc.---but the St. Louis is the default fave. The brisket and pulled pork are admirable, while sides like collared greens and macaroni and cheese are Sunday supper-authentic. The restaurant even offers hearty, home-style breakfast fare (although they don't open before 11 a.m. Monday through Saturday and noon on Sunday), including sweet potato pancakes, biscuits with gravy, and the heart-stopper that is Shirley's Fixings, a platter of catfish, pancakes, grits and bacon.
