Chengdu Description:
If you haven't been to Chengdu lately, go. The place has spruced itself up considerably. Though it still serves what's arguably the best Chinese food in the area (sorry, Butterfly fans), the somewhat seedy, dark lounge digs are gone, replaced by a more modern, and frankly far more stylish décor: think brick and stone walls, cool bamboo curtains, bright neon lighting, even a sidewalk patio. As a result, it's now much more satisfying to eat in than to take out. What's more, in addition to the traditional Americanized favorites---General Tso's chicken, Peking duck and so on---it now offers several of its own interpretations of the cuisine, like the Rock 'N' Roll Beef or the Hot Hot Phoenix Chicken (which, true to its name, is on the spicy side).
