As unpretentious as any hamburger joint, this Persian restaurant is a wonder. Who would expect to find such gently seasoned meats, delicate saffron-laced rice and crunchy shirazi salads from such a tiny kitchen? The formula works, for the place never seems empty, especially when local businesspeople want a generous midday meal. Start with garlic-spiked hummus, then work your way through the vegetable-and-pasta aush soup to the lamb and chicken kebabs. Check the specials menu: If you are lucky, you'll feast on tahdiq (the crusty rice from the bottom of the cooking pot) topped with a ladle of yellow split peas and cubed beef. If it's available, ask for a serving of bademjan, or stewed eggplant, swirled with Persian yogurt. All in all, it's fine bargain dining in the suburbs.
