Xiomara on Melrose Description:
Restaurateur Xiomara Ardolina is behind this sexy coffee-colored space featuring a cool upstairs loft lined with a wrought iron railing. Tables are dressed in crisp white linen, candles flicker throughout, and a stately mirrored bar is busy dispensing what may be the best mojito in town. The cuisine is best described as Nuevo Latino, with plenty of influences from Ardolina's native Cuba, some French technique, and Asian accents as well. Menu highlights include gingered bacalaito (cod fritters) in a sweet pepper-mango sauce, paella, Cuban-style seared pork hash, Chino-Latino duck, corn-crusted Chilean sea bass, and coffee-soaked tres leches cake with caramel ice cream, which is one of the city's more memorable Latin finales. On Monday nights, more traditional Cuban specialties like ropa vieja and pierna de lechón asada (roasted leg of pork) are featured on an optional menu. The wine list includes some reasonably priced bottles from throughout the world.
