Long ago, it became evident that Creole and Italian preparations are complementary, but few places combine them so well. For a restaurant working in the normally straightforward Italian-Creole genre, the combinations of food can get fairly complicated on the dinner plates. The good news, however, is that here, each element on its own is deftly prepared. The signature dish is the malfatti, a diminutive serving of Italian spinach dumplings with prosciutto and cheeses in cream sauce. Another featured dish brings together a sautéed soft-shell crab, a veal scallop sauced with crab meat and mushrooms, and a small filet mignon. We also suggest the eggplant stuffed with lump crab meat, shrimp and oyster dressing, all bathed in a caper lemon butter, and the osso buco, slow cooked to simply fall off the bone. Cushioned bentwood chairs, lustrous wood walls and mirror panels define the single dining room's warm, easy elegance.
