Pasadena, Nfld, Town, pop 3133 (2001c), 3445 (1996c), 3428 (1991c), area 49.16 km2, inc 1955, is situated on the shores of Deer Lake in the Humber Valley region of W Newfoundland, 25 km from the sea port and paper milling centre of CORNER BROOK.
HistoryFounded in the early 1930s by Leonard Earle as a 10 km2 mixed-farming operation, Pasadena, which means "Crown of the Valley," was named after Pasadena, California. The importance of farming lessened after Confederation in 1949, and Pasadena has evolved as a residential community with a growing light industrial and commercial base.
Present Day It has 2 industrial parks and the first incubator mall in Newfoundland, called the "Venture Centre." Pasadena is also the site of a Geological Core Storage Library research facility operated by the provincial government, which has made the community a centre for MINING exploration and development in W and central Nfld.
