Café Marigny Description:
White tablecloths, a glistening bar and sturdy chairs set the standard in the capacious dining room, making Marigny Brasserie a bit of an anomaly among the nightclubs, bars and coffee shops extending down Frenchmen Street. Chef Miles Prescott has reinvigorated the menu, and now among the small plates you'll find such treats as a charcuterie assortment, drunken scallops macerated in plum wine with roasted beets, and French onion escargots with port wine demi-glace. Mains reach to inventive dishes with a Creole background, such as crawfish ravioli, pan-roasted redfish with shiitake cream, basmati rice and caramelized Brussels sprouts and cochon de lait. Roasted young chicken comes with a stuffing of foraged mushrooms. Local ingredients figure in such dishes as the Ponchatoula strawberry shortcake. Marigny Brasserie's large front bar is always a lively scene, and offers a menu of tapas-size snacks such as lamb lollipops with sherry gastrique, raw and char-grilled oysters, and hot-and-spicy crawfish beignets. The wine list covers the globe and offers many choices by the glass.
