Mr. B's Bistro Description:
In Cindy Brennan's lively bistro, partitions of dark wood and etched glass and lacy café curtains serve as the backdrop for green vinyl banquettes lining the walls. Gentle sounds waft from a centrally situated grand piano, and the service staff has as much bustle and bravado as any restaurant in town. Colorful and sophisticated, this contemporary bistro is always filled and festive. Another center of activity is a large grill fueled with aromatic woods. From it come well prepared fish, shellfish and meats that are imaginatively matched with unusual vegetables. Spicy, New Orleans-style barbecued shrimp is a good bet, as are the fish beignets and pasta jambalaya. The super-thick gumbo ya-ya of chicken and sausage carries hearty flavors, and the more traditional seafood-okra gumbo, lighter but just as tasty, is always reliable. The bountiful desserts are hard to pass up: a soft, warm bread pudding drenched in Irish-whiskey sauce, a pecan pie that yields to no other for goodness, and a cheesecake that might even pass muster on Broadway. The Sunday jazz brunch is a favorite with locals and visitors.
