Mulate's Description:
Let the good times roll, indeed, especially for fans of Cajun round dancing. In Mulate's huge (40,000 square feet) restaurant and dance hall, prints and artifacts evoke the atmosphere of Louisiana's Bayou Country. Tables covered in red-checkered cloths enclose the spacious dance floor, where tourists and conventioneers, and a smattering of locals, twirl and shuffle to the lusty sounds of live bands. Gastronomes will have to settle for a Cajun-inspired menu, which proves that ethnic food can be both fairly authentic and unpredictable in quality. The menu offers more than a dozen starters and some 20 main courses. A crisp, minimally greasy baked duck sports a fairly tasty gravy. Among the dishes in liquid form, the better bets are the crawfish bisque and the zydeco gumbo, the latter a blend of okra, shrimp, chicken and a good version of andouille sausage. The rest is a hotbed of inconsistency, including a blackened steak that would have been better served with a machete. Skip dessert.
