Olivier's Description:
Olivier's is one of those comfortable places that locals are so used to that they tend to forget about it. Still, the occasional meal there is a pleasant trip back to an "old friend." The food is consistent and service is satisfactory. Traditional Creole dishes, such as shrimp Creole and crawfish etouffée, are the real reason to dine at Olivier's. First-timers should treat themselves to the "Taster's Platter," featuring fish, shrimp, oysters, crab and salmon cakes, and the house Creole gumbo. The seafood is dipped in a milk and egg wash, rolled in yellow corn flour, and seasoned with garlic, cayenne and salt, then deep fried. Many of the recipes have been passed along through five generations of the family that owns the restaurant. The decades of perfecting the preparations are evident, especially in some of the more complex dishes, such as the roasted pork tenderloin, rolled in honey and served with a spicy pineapple-plum mint sauce.
