Unlike some of its local counterparts, Sake Café offers an interesting blend of Americanized sushi (try the New Orleans roll with crawfish) and traditional Japanese fare. The best bites here, and the best deals, are the sushi and the sashimi: scallops taken fresh and still pulsing from their shells, marbled toro, and aji (small silvery mackerel) served with their heads and skeletons tempura-fried. Efficient servers never let cups of green tea go empty. Besides intriguing Japanese-inspired fare, this ambient Japanese restaurant offers dim corners and concentrated lighting, a lounge-like cocktail bar, and a comfy upstairs loft.
