IL Fornaio Description:
Making its debut on the East Coast, this restaurant group has made its name with its breads and rolls, so good that they even offer a take-out section for these items. Indeed, all of the restaurant's fare is available for take-home service. Founded several decades ago, this Italian bakery has prospered, and when you sample both bread and other menu items, you'll see why---as you dunk your crust into a plate of green-gold olive oil. For one, the portions are generous, such as the garlicky bruschetta appetizer: paired with a salad and followed by dessert, this makes for an ample lunch. But the entrées, pastas and grilled meats burst with Italian goodness: we like the rosemary-roasted chicken perched on a bed of mashed potatoes, but another option is the linguine with a mixed seafood topping, zesty and garlicky. The menu changes regularly, and maybe, just maybe, the kitchen might be willing to add an occasional Italian cheesecake to its dessert line-up. Otherwise, you'll eat well, and if you are a bread lover, you'll clap with delight.
