Anne Marie's Carriage House Bistro Description:
In Victorian-era San Antonio, the Sullivan Carriage House was the snazzy sidekick to a limestone mansion near downtown. In more recent times, it was moved stone-by-stone to a site adjacent to the San Antonio Botanical Center where it took on a new life as a gift shop and restaurant. Even more recently, operating management changed, but the format still suggests a tea room, and the quiche, salad and sandwich sections of the menu reinforces the impression. But a subtle shift in the direction of both Cajun country and the Southwest is suggested by a blackened chicken muffaletta, a South Texas cheesesteak (with ancho-smoked tenderloin and jalapeño cream cheese subbing for the original ingredients) and chile-braised chicken served with corn salsa. Egg and french toast dishes still prevail at weekend brunches, which also offer companion cocktails.
