Las Ramblas Description:
Situated at River Walk level of the upscale Hotel Contessa, Las Ramblas trades heavily on location and boasts details in tile and wrought iron that evoke the Barcelona of Gaudi. A new chef seems poised to bring equally detailed attention to small plates such as Moroccan marinated beef kebabs and patatas bravas with crisp leeks. Yes, there's the obligatory paella or two. But there is also the seafood-studded zarzuela Catalana and a game hen with chorizo bread pudding. Daily rotisserie offerings (beef, veal, lamb or pork) are also of interest. Diners not feeling especially español may opt for more Yankee-fied fare such as braised lamb shank, and vegetarians will appreciate options such as a sangría-poached Bosc pear. Iberian offerings don't dominate the wine list, but for tippling with tapas consider cava, the dependable Spanish sparkler.
