Samantha's Description:
Authentic Salvadoran food (find the pupusas hiding on the back page), also Mexican and Spanish entrees. Family restaurant atmosphere with generous portions and a bar. Very affordable, dinner entrees around $10, but huge pupusas are $1.50 each.
If you seek a quiet corner with classic foods, you may want to make a detour, for Samanthas isnt for you. It tends to attract large crowds craving tender, overstuffed pupusas; rich black beans; sweet-sour-hot stewed Cuban-style pork; and seafood dishes that defy description. And thats only part of the menu, the rest of which offers assorted Tex-Mex treats, from chiles rellenos and fajitas to marinated beef tongue and roasted duck with Spanish herbs. No one hurries much here, so getting served may take awhile. On the other hand, waitstaff willingly replenishes the hot chips and nubbly salsa and refills sodas whenever you wish. Once the food arrives, youll find the portions are enormous. Dont overeat, however. That would mean youd miss the stupendous tres leches cake, a marvel of custard-soaked pastry that zeros in on calories and flavor. Once you push back from the table, you may decide that the menu contains at least three dishes you wished youd ordered, and didnt. Well, come again, amigo.
