Joe's Main Street Diner Description:
We harbor no illusions that Joe's is anything but a diner---but we think it is a very good one, and it seems that much of the neighborhood agrees. People greet one another by name here and order "the usual." The crowd is conspicuously beach-y and, to some degree, health-conscious. At breakfast, in addition to french toast with fried banana slices, expect blue cornmeal pancakes and a hearty omelet with spinach, onions and ground beef. Later in the day, you'll find meaty burgers, tall shakes, and specialties like Cheryl's Garden---a tasty and substantial sandwich uniting the healthy (tomato, avocado, lettuce, carrots and sprouts) with the unhealthy (Thousand Island dressing and melted Monterey jack cheese). To drink, there's "a short little wine list" with no glass over $5.95. Finish with the intimidating "Bloodsugar Cannon Ball" with six scoops of ice cream, six toppings, whipped cream, nuts and a cherry.
