Parasol's Description:
Since 1952, this legendary, ramshackle po' boy shop has been a fixture of the Irish Channel in Uptown New Orleans. Following a six-month shut-down in 1998-99, new managers resurrected the place in the spring of 1999 and began to reproduce the culinary repertoire of overstuffed po' boys in the classic mode. Sandwiches come filled with hot roast beef and (usually) robustly seasoned gravy, meatballs with deep-red tomato sauce, fried-to-order shrimp or oysters, or a handful of other choices. Longtime Parasol's aficionados claim the sandwiches---served in eight- or 13-inch lengths---deliver the same old-timey goodness. This is not a restaurant for dainty eaters. For stevedore-size appetites, there's a 13-inch combination shrimp and oyster sandwich that could satisfy three normal ones.
